The Recon G1 is an affordable, flexible power solution for portable comms.

Great news for Midland MXT500 users: Deep Recons purchased after January 12th, 2022 are compatible! See picture, below, of the spanking new MXT500 our Deep Recon

Designed to be compatible with a wide range of radios, the Recon G1 incorporates the same basic functionality as our Operator and Scout. A rugged system that fits securely within the 50 caliber ammo can, yet slides in or out without tools. CNC machined HDPE chassis, electrically isolated from the metal ammo can.

Our two-year warranty is the best in our industry and is only possible thanks to the quality of our gear. If you have trouble with any of our equipment that we cannot resolve through phone support, ship us the machine and we will repair or replace and ship it back to you at our cost.

Power comes from the included 108 WH AGM battery, which is replaceable without tools, and is a standard UB1290. The Recon G1 is also compatible with drop-in LiFePO4 cells, like this one.

Additional Features include:

  • Internal, three-stage solar controller that handles up to 60 watts of solar input.
  • AC charger included. Stows away in the chassis, out of sight but easy to get to when needed.
  • Voltmeter and ammeter so you can monitor power usage.
  • Powerful 3 amp USB port for powering and charging peripheral devices.

See the introduction video, below

The standard Recon G1 uses a 50 caliber ammunition can. The Deep Recon option uses a 'tall' 50 caliber can and a chassis extension.

Many small radios, like the Jetstream JT-27, easily fit in the standard Recon. Other, deeper radios, like the Yaesu FT-8900R, need the extra space created with the Deep Recon option. Measure your radio, including protrusions, to see which is the best choice for you.

  • Standard Recon radio bay: 5.75" wide, 2.125" tall, and 6.5" deep.
  • Deep Recon radio bay: 5.75" wide, 2.125" tall, and 9.25" deep.

Turning off the main switch makes the machine go dark but still allows the radio, headphone, and speaker to operate. Forward-facing 3 watt speaker provides plenty of volume and good tone for voice. Front mounted headphone jack for silent operation or noisy environments. Switch-activated cooling fan directs air against the underside of an installed radio.
